Thinking back on some of the systems we’ve completed for our clients, it’s hard to believe how quickly time flies. Technology has advanced so much over the last 5-7 years and some of our earlier projects, though great in their day, are in need of a little updating. Our system of the month is a perfect example. The client has a multi-purpose home theater system with a television for daytime viewing and projector with a drop down screen for movie nights. Video has probably been the fastest changing aspect of technology over the last 10 years. His Runco CRT projector has been rapidly out-paced by today’s DLP projectors. When Robert began inquiring on updates to his system, the projector was our first starting point.
Robert had a cinema quality Runco CRT projector and had used it heavily for 10 years. Ultimately, he decided it was time to get the display up to date so that he could continue to enjoy it for another 10. The originally installed screen was replaced with a newer Stewart StudioTek 100 for the video upgrade along with a Runco VX-22D, 3 chip 1080p DLP projector with external video processor. The light output of these new DLP’s in comparison to the original CRT projector is, for lack of better words, like night and day.

Since the projector video upgrade about a year ago, other components of the system have been replaced and updated including a Runco 65” 1080p plasma in place of a retired Sony Tube TV. The existing Meridian 5.1 surround system was upgraded to 7.1 along with the addition of a Blu-Ray DVD player. During a service call in recent months, it was determined that one of the original amplifiers was beginning to show its age and was beginning to have issues. Classe, a manufacturer of audiophile components, had just started shipping their anticipated new line of Custom Theater amplifiers. A suggestion was made to the client that this might be the perfect time to update his 10 year old amplifiers to the brand new amps offered by Classe. Due to the original purchase being product that represents superior performance and quality, we were able to resell the old equipment on our ebay store as part of our “Project Re-Use” program for existing clients and apply the credit to the new purchase.
The current system consists of a Meridian 861 audio processor, a Meridian 800 DVD Player, Meridian HD621, 5 Classe CT Series Amplifiers, Blu-Ray disc player, B&W 801 Speakers, 2 Velodyne DD-18 Powered Subwoofers, Runco VX-22 3-Chip DLP Projector with DMD Processor and a Stewart StudioTek 100 138” diagonal motorized screen. The system is controlled with a Crestron control system that also controls the rest of the houses’ functions.
The quality of the update to the system is, in a word, breathtaking! The new system offers a level of performance that far exceeds what can be had at any local theater in terms of video and audio reproduction. For audio alone it is amazing the level of clarity that is able to be achieved with this system. It is as good as a live performance, with all of the impact and emotion.
Here are some kind words Robert had to say about his experience with Sound & Vision over the last decade….
I have been a loyal customer of Sound & Vision for 10 years. This long term relationship has been based on trust, quality, outstanding service, and their expertise. For me, the true measure of a company is the relationship after the sale is over. This is where Sound & Vision keeps me as a loyal customer. They follow through and you become a part of the Sound & Vision family of customers for the long term support of your system.
